Daddy Curled Hair

Cadence loves to have her hair curled. After her bath she'll run and get the rags and say, "Daddy, I want curled hair!" And Daddy happily complies.

P.S. Kristina was wondering what hair normally looks like now. This is it, the first picture is damp and unbrushed, the second is brushed and completely dry. The first is a month ago, the second was today:

Growth and Change

Wow - this weekend showed huge growth and changes for my J buddy. First, he decided (with a little help) that it was ok to go back to sleep with only a little loving from mama in the night. Then, he outgrew his pjs - fortunately we foresaw that problem and got him the next size up for his birthday.

Then.... He weaned himself. Suddenly. Abruptly. Thoroughly. Thursday and Friday he nursed his usual 8-10 times daily. Friday night he flat out REFUSED to nurse. The end. I knew he would be ok if I gradually weaned him. I did NOT expect him to suddenly go cold turkey.  I did manage to coax him to nurse a tiny bit so it wouldn't seem so abrupt - two and a half times in two and a half days.

Mama is sad. She misses her baby.

And Mama is extremely glad. That was the easiest weaning I could ever imagine.

His Sister's Stuff

Today was James' one-year check-up with Dr. Fields. He is 18 lbs 4.6 oz, and 28 inches long. This puts him in the 2nd percentile for his weight and 3rd for his length. He says several words now, like "Dada, Mama, all done, bye-bye, uh-oh, ball, hammer, bang bang BANG!, guitar, amen..." He LOVES to sing, and starts weaving his head back and forth like a loony when he hears music. He likes to do the motions, especially to If You're Saved and You Know It, He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, This Little Light of Mine, and Rat-a-Tat-Tat. When he is hungry for big people food he starts pointing to his mouth, and he likes pretty much anything and everything. Except baby food from a jar. He thinks that's gross. James is very social, and loves to be around people and kids. He thrives on excitement, and is a very busy boy. Between playing he likes to have snuggles. He'll grab his pacifier and say "Night-night," then lay his head on your shoulder and pat your back. He is very sweet, and very ornery.

At his doctors appointment, Dr. Fields said, "He'll probably start to show an interest in his sister's things." Ha. Haha. Bwahahahahahah!!!

Let me relate a little incident about James and "His sister's stuff" - which he has been intensely interested in since he learned to crawl at seven months.

The other day Cadence had her little people lined up on the couch all nice and neat, playing with them and making them talk to each other. James quietly, s-l-o-w-l-y crawled over to the couch. Then, cutting his eyes at her to make sure she was still busy, he quietly, s-l-o-w-l-y pulled up at the far end, watching her ever so carefully. After a few moments, Cadence walked away to go do something else.

James immediately flung himself down the couch as fast as he could go, yelling and screaming "AAAAAAA!!!!!" all the way, flailing his arms like a wild man - and knocking every. single. one. of the little people off the couch.

Then he laughed so hard he had to sit down.
